BEFORE YOUR SHOOT

There are a few things you should plan on before your appointment.

  • EAT – Speaking from experience, don’t starve yourself! You won’t look good, feel good or be at your best! Passing out in the middle of a shoot puts a kink in the fun!

  • DRINK – Dehydrated skin is not a happy skin! The day before your shoot make sure to drink plenty of water. Your skin will thank you and it will help you to avoid retaining water.

  • REST – Try to get enough sleep the night before, it makes a difference!

  • DO YOUR NAILS – “Unfinished” nails (fingers AND toes) can ruin an otherwise-fabulous photo! You don’t have to get a manicure but do try to have your nails neat and clean. No polish is far better than chipped polish! I generally opt for French tips, no matter what you decide to wear they will match!

  • HAIR REMOVAL – Shave, bleach, wax… whatever it is you choose to do but don’t forget. You’ll thank me for the reminder when you see the photos.

CLOTHING

The eternal question… What to wear? Short answer: Whatever you want! Usually, my suggestion is to bring about 5-7 outfits. Please try to wear LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING to the shoot... with no tight socks, panties or bra straps. You don't want to end up with skin indentations from the elastic.

1) High heels! You don't have invest in a whole new lingerie wardrobe just for your shoot, really! You probably look and feel sexiest in something you already own! But sky-high heels are one thing you don't want to be without. Heels not only make you feel sexy but they elongate your legs and tighten the appearance of your legs. If you are going to invest in something new then make it a super-sexy pair of stilettos if you don't already own a pair.

2) Something casual (jeans, t-shirt, dress pants, cool jacket, anything really)

3) Something simple (white panties and a white t-shirt, your partner's dress shirt or favorite sports jersey, matching bra and panties, etc.)

4) Something sexy but classy (pretty lingerie in the vein of Victoria's Secret is a good start)

5) The important one... something you don't think you'll be brave enough to wear! Think Frederick's as opposed to Victoria’s. It can be cute, sexy, silly, fun, rocker-chick or just plain crazy! I've had women choose a corset with garters, thigh-highs and sky-high heels, some wear booty shorts with a leather studded belt and a bra, some have brought a crazy wig and a torn-up punk style outfit. Anything that you wouldn't wear as your "normal" self flies here! You don't have to wear it... but you would rather bring it and decide not to wear it than not bring it and regret it!

The optional #6) Your birthday suit! Many women request nude or partial nude photos. This might mean implied (you are nude but posed so that nothing is showing), topless or fully nude. This is YOUR choice! Some women want to, some women don’t… it is up to you.

MAKEUP

Makeup is a personal choice. Many women find that professional makeup application makes the difference between good photos and jaw-dropping ones! A professional makeup artist is not only trained to apply makeup to best showcase your features, they are also skilled in applying makep specifically for studio lighting. Studio lights require a certain type of makeup application to show you at your best!

Makeup application is an optional part of your session experience. I am available for hire at a discounted rate along with your photography session. You are, of course, more than welcome to do your own makeup if you would prefer. You are also feel free to hire an outside makeup artist or bring along a personal favorite.

. ..I am a professional makeup artist and received my Certification in Makeup Artistry from Brio Academy in April of 2008. I maintain a strong focus on cleanliness and sanitation and I am always careful to consider what a client wants from their session. I am happy to offer tips and suggestions for the looks that will work best for your photos. I will work with any ideas you might have for your makeup or I will help you come up with some ideas. As a rule, if you are shooting traditional portraits or everyday wear you should start your session with more natural makeup. The next step is something a bit more formal, generally with darker lips and classic eyes. For sexier shots, ultra dramatic eyes and nude, glossy lips are a great combination. Fake lashes are optional but do tend to give eyes extra impact.
